My mom, aunt, sister, and I have been trying to plan a girls' spa weekend for about 7 years. It was much easier to get on the calendar now that I am not working. We did end up bringing babies, so it wasn't quite as relaxing as it may have been years ago. Anyway, this simple trip turned into a much longer one after I decided to bridge two short weekend trips into one long trip.
We started out our adventure with a visit to Justin's parents to drop off Sophie. (Thank you, Lee and Joanne, for watching her all week.) Edison loves to visit the farm and drive everything he can find.
The next day, we picked up my mom and drove to Bonneville hot springs outside of Vancouver. It is normally about a 6 hour drive, but the key to road tripping with a toddler is to include lots of stops (along with having a healthy supply of snacks, books, toys, and iPad games). Our favorite stop was at fake stone henge to let Edison get out some wiggles, followed by wine tasting at Maryhill for the adults.
We spent the next two days swimming and spending time together.
As we left for the next leg of our trip, we took a small detour to see Multnomah Falls, which was one of my favorite stops as a kid. Edison loved it, too, and is still talking about the "BIG waterfall."
We spent that night at my sister's house in Yakima and got a surprise visit from my brother the next morning.
Next we drove to Seattle to drop my mom off at the airport and to pick up Justin, who had spent the week in Arizona. We spent that night in a hotel downtown. Isn't he cute with his little suitcase?
The next day we went to the aquarium and then to Pike Place Market to pick up some fresh fish for dinner.
We spent Memorial day weekend hanging out with our friends, Cam and Jenn. The highlight, by far, was taking Edison to the zoo. He was so excited to see his favorite animals, especially the elephants. We actually had to leave the elephant barn because he wouldn't stop making very loud elephant noises.
Finally, we drove back across the state to pick up Sophie and spend another night at the farm.
We had a great trip, but are very happy to be back at home and out of the car.
