Planes, trains, and automobiles

The whole Druffel clan - all 10 of us - went on an amazing trip to San Francisco last weekend to celebrate Justin's mom's birthday.  We had such a good time.  Good ready for an overdose of pictures!

We started out flying from Spokane to Seattle.

Edison acted out the flight with his toy airplane.
(He gave himself a nice rug burn on his forehead the night before we left).

Next we took the light rail from the airport to the train station.

How sweet is this picture??

Next we boarded an overnight Amtrak train from Seattle to San Francisco. Each family had their own little sleeping room and we had access to the first class parlor and dining cars. Edison was in heaven. We actually all were.  What a fun and relaxing way to travel.

At the train station

Edison and Pops boarding the train. I can't tell who was more excited.

E checking out the Puget Sound

He got to meet the conductor

We spent most of our time hanging out in the parlor car

The dining car was also nice

There was even a movie theater

But he was most excited about the bunk beds

Ready to get off the train the next morning

Next we took a bus to our hotel in downtown San Francisco. Edison loved looking at all of the tall buildings.

After we got checked in and freshened up, we walked to Chinatown, ate some lunch, and toured around a bit.

Then we took a trolley down to Fisherman's Wharf. We went to Ghirardelli where Edison managed to eat 3 pieces of chocolate. Then Grammy bought him a bear hat, the sugar kicked in, and he literally ran around for half an hour roaring at pigeons and pretending he was a bear.

We finished up the day with a nice birthday dinner. I should note that Grammy's birthday was actually in July, but this was the first time we could all get away for a long weekend. That did not stop us from telling everyone it was her birthday and singing to her every night.

The next day, we took a wine tour of Napa Valley. Edison has been excited for months about getting to ride in a limo across the Golden Gate bridge.

We started out with a private lunch at Pops and Grammy's favorite winery. We ended up staying there for 3 hours.

E was excited to get "kid wine"

He loved this little fountain by our table

Being silly with Uncle Allen

He also enjoyed picking leftover grapes from the vineyard

Most of the family in the storage room

We stopped at smaller winery next, where Edison was entertained by basketball and chickens.  There was also a neat old rusty truck to "fix."

Things got a little bit silly at the third winery for some reason...

We ended the night with pizza and a movie in our hotel room. All 10 of us.

The last day of our trip, we checked out of the hotel and took Edison to the aquarium.

We also took a walk to see a battleship nearby.

We finally flew back home late that night.  Poor Justin flew out 7 hours later and E and I spent the week getting ready for our next trip, which we are on right now.

To end, Edison loves babies and especially loves holding them. His cousin Hadley was on the trip (what a trooper!) and I have a ridiculous number of pictures of the two of them. Here are the best of the bunch.
